BHN Specialist Network
Bring your expertise where businesses actually need it.
BHN Specialists are independent professionals with demonstrated expertise in specific business disciplines. Specialists may be brought into a case when BHC identifies a need requiring deeper subject-matter knowledge, professional evaluation, or specialized services.
BHC does not expect one professional to know everything about a business. We identify the need and involve the appropriate expertise.
The Business Health Network is a network of independent professionals — it does not employ anyone. Clients engage Business Health Clinic, and BHC engages independent professionals for a defined portion of that scope.
What is a BHN Specialist?
A BHN Specialist is a professional whose expertise may be matched to a specific business need identified through the BHC process.
Potential disciplines include
- Accounting
- Finance
- Financial analysis
- Financing and capital
- Human resources
- Legal
- M&A
- Business brokerage
- Sales
- Marketing
- Technology
- Systems
- Restructuring
- Business valuation
- Risk / compliance
- Other specialized business disciplines
This list is not exhaustive. BHC adds new specialty categories as the network grows.
Where Specialists fit into BHC
Specialists are brought into the process when the case indicates that their particular expertise is relevant.

Appropriate Specialist
Recommendation / Treatment / Implementation
A Specialist generally receives context about
- Why they are being engaged
- What question needs to be answered
- What area requires expertise
- What information is available
- What deliverable is expected
- What is outside the scope
- Timeline
- Compensation
We avoid sending Specialists vague requests such as:
“Look at this business and tell us what you think.”
BHC defines the reason for the Specialist's involvement whenever reasonably possible.
How Specialists May Contribute
Your involvement depends on the needs of the case. Specialists may contribute at one or more stages based on their expertise, the defined scope, and BHC approval.
Expert Review
Provide specialized expertise when a BHC case raises a question or concern within your discipline.
- — Financial or accounting patterns
- — HR or organizational concerns
- — Marketing or sales performance
- — Technology or systems issues
- — Legal or regulatory questions
- — Other specialty-specific concerns
Recommendations
Help BHC determine an appropriate course of action when the available evidence involves your area of expertise.
The Specialist contributes professional or subject-matter expertise within their defined scope. BHC determines the overall Treatment Plan.
Implementation
When appropriate, provide specialized services to help carry out an approved recommendation.
Participating in a review or diagnostic does not automatically mean the same Specialist receives the implementation work. Additional work is separately scoped and approved.
A Specialist may participate in one stage or multiple stages depending on the case, qualifications, scope, and BHC approval.
Specialist vs. Fractional Operator
Specialist
Deep expertise in a defined discipline.
Primary question
What does this issue require within my area of expertise?
Finance, accounting, HR, legal, marketing, technology, M&A.
Fractional Operator
Turns identified priorities into functioning operational systems and execution.
Primary question
How do we make this work consistently inside the business?
Workflows, processes, accountability systems, documentation, implementation, operational coordination.
They may work together
A Financial Specialist determines that weak job-costing is preventing a company from understanding project profitability. A Fractional Operator may then help implement the operational process for:
- Collecting job-cost information
- Assigning responsibility
- Establishing workflow
- Creating reporting routines
- Ensuring the system is consistently used
The Specialist brings depth of expertise. The Operator helps create repeatable execution.
Specialist vs. Business Health Reviewer
A Business Health Reviewer conducts the structured Business Health Review, gathers context, documents findings, and submits the case for BHC evaluation.
A Specialist provides deeper subject-matter expertise when a specific issue requires it.
A Reviewer should not attempt to replace a qualified Specialist.
Independent professional opportunities
BHN Specialists participate as independent professionals/providers rather than employees of Business Health Clinic, and do not automatically become employees of the client business. Clients contract with Business Health Clinic; BHC engages independent professionals for a defined portion of that scope.
Potential engagements may be
- Remote
- On-site
- Hybrid
- One-time reviews
- Diagnostic assignments
- Project-based
- Implementation engagements
- Ongoing professional services when appropriate
Every assignment should define the applicable
- Scope
- Deliverable
- Timeline
- Compensation
- Confidentiality requirements
- Reporting expectations
- Client interaction
- Professional boundaries
Joining the network does not guarantee assignments or income.
